COURSE DESCRIPTION
Suicide remains one of the most complex and emotionally challenging issues faced by mental health professionals. This full-day clinical training provides social workers, counselors, and helping professionals with a comprehensive understanding of suicide prevention, risk assessment, ethical responsibilities, clinical intervention, safety planning, and traumatic grief following suicide loss.
Participants will explore current suicide terminology, warning signs, risk and protective factors, evidence-based screening and assessment tools, theories of suicide, and practical intervention strategies for working with suicidal individuals across a variety of clinical settings.
The training also examines the ethical and legal responsibilities of clinicians, including informed consent, confidentiality, documentation, scope of competence, cultural responsiveness, referral decisions, and reasonable duty of care in suicide prevention.
In addition to prevention and intervention, this training addresses the impact of suicide loss on individuals, families, clinicians, and communities, offering trauma-informed approaches to supporting survivors of suicide loss.
This training includes case examples, discussion, ethical application, and practical tools clinicians can immediately integrate into practice.
